About Laura

Laura Fries is an award-winning producer and accomplished assistant director with over 15 years of experience in television and film. A proud Korean adoptee, she is deeply committed to amplifying underrepresented voices and championing inclusive storytelling across genres and formats.

Before transitioning behind the camera, Laura worked as both an actor and stunt performer—giving her a sharp eye for performance and the nuances of on-set dynamics. A graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, she is a proud member of the Directors Guild of America (DGA), the Television Academy, SAG-AFTRA, and Actors’ Equity Association (AEA). She currently serves on the board of FilmNorth, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting independent filmmakers and emerging voices in cinema.

Recently, she produced a short film as part of the Proof of Concept Accelerator, a program sponsored by Netflix, Cate Blanchett’s Dirty Films, and the USC Inclusion Initiative . Her producing talents have also been recognized by the Producers Guild of America (PGA) through their highly selective Create Lab fellowship, where she honed her creative development skills. Additional honors include participation in the Stowe Producers Lab and the Sidewalk Narrative Lab.

Her latest project, BODY SHOP, is a Tribeca Untold Stories program alumni—earning a production grant and the opportunity to pitch live at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Laura brings a powerful mix of creative intuition, production expertise, and relentless drive to every project. She is passionate about crafting bold, character-driven stories and remains dedicated to elevating BIPOC narratives on screen.
